The original Sera Siporax Professional filter media is suitable for use in both freshwater and marine aquarium setups. Siporax is suitable for a range of filtration options and can be used in internal, external and trickle style aquarium filters. Siporax provides maximum surface area for biological purification and provides an optimal substrate for the settling of the necessary filter bacteria.

Natural processes which occur in river or lake beds are very important. Organic waste is processed by micro-organisms and converted through a natural cycle to nutrients for aquatic plants. In doing so harmful pollutants such as ammonium, nitrite and nitrate are removed. Since little waste per water volume is formed in nature, the surface of the river or lake bed is sufficient for housing the required number of these vital micro-organisms.

An aquarium however accommodates a large biotope in a small space. It is therefore necessary to maximise the settling area for the vital micro-organisms to ensure complete and safe breakdown of the harmful pollutants. Sera perfectly put this into practice with the unique high performance filter medium, Sera Siporax.

Unlike other filter rings available on the market, Sera Siporax consists of sintered glass. This unique material has a special three-dimensional pore structure providing maximum surface area. The fine pores provide ideal settling conditions for bacteria which break down pollutants with the highest possible efficiency. Furthermore, the unique pore array allows for self-cleaning of the substrate and in turn reduces filter maintenance.
